The Centre for Child Development
One-Stop-Shop
The Centre is a “one-stop shop” with specialized paediatric psychologists, family service and parent support workers, Fetal Alcohol Disorder Syndrome workers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physiotherapists, early childhood educators, supported child development consultants and teachers, recreation specialists, specialized equipment technicians, a dietician and a doctor specializing in developmental paediatrics.
Unique Program
The Centre’s program is unique in that spaces are offered to children with and without special needs. Their goal is to give every child the attention they need while promoting learning, compassion and acceptance in an inclusive environment.
Providing Complex Care
Many of the children at The Centre have enduring disabilities and health issues. While hospitals focus on addressing the immediate medical needs of a child, they are not equipped or funded to provide the long-term and complex care that The Centre provides.
Casting & Splinting
Casting & Splinting uses corrective treatment to address orthopedic issues.
Eating Skills
An Eating Skills team helps children with severe eating disorders ensure they are getting proper nutrition in a safe manner.
Meeting Mobility Needs
An Equipment Team adapts equipment to meet the mobility needs of children.
Recreational Therapy
Recreational therapy allows children to participate in sports and activities.
Sophie’s Place
Sophie’s Place is an advocacy centre dedicated to children who are victims of physical, mental or sexual abuse.
From Humble Beginnings
From its humble beginnings serving a handful of children, The Centre has grown and now provides services to approximately 2,400 children with complex and severe developmental disabilities per year.
Safe Environment
The Centre for Child Development works with families to create the most supportive and safe environment for the children to progress and thrive. The children are very determined and work so very hard for their achievements.
