The Mowafaghian Foundation donated $300,000 to advance Dr. Pouya Azar’s research, integrated care, and education in the fields of mental health, addiction, and pain.
Azar Lab is dedicated to transforming the field of addiction medicine through innovative research, cutting-edge clinical protocols, and the development of advanced technologies that save lives. The lab is recognized for pioneering evidence-based strategies that address the realities of the modern opioid crisis, particularly the challenges posed by fentanyl. The work of the Lab brings together clinical research, pharmacology, digital health, and artificial intelligence to develop safer, faster, and more effective drug and pain treatment approaches.
The Mowafaghian Foundation’s donation supports research as part of the Azar Lab’s Innovations in Mental Health, Addictions, Pain and Prevention program. This Lab’s research has led to a number of advancements, including Track and Trace— a first-in-Canada technology using lab robotics to analyze dangerous drugs and provide an artificial intelligence-assisted dashboard for law enforcement to map and track those drugs in BC communities.
