The Integrated Program in Neuroscience (IPN) at McGill University is an inter-disciplinary, inter-departmental graduate program and is Canada’s largest graduate neuroscience program. The program has been supported by the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation for several years. It spans the full spectrum of neuroscientific fields of research, from cellular and molecular neuroscience to behavioral and cognitive neuroscience.
As part of their research work, Salah El Mestikawy and his team combined different approaches to analyze how the brain works, ranging from the molecular and fundamental functions to the most integrated aspects, such as behaviour and pathology. Their work and the work of other researchers has been aided by funds from the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship.
The Neuro is dedicated to research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism; advocating for the needs of those with autism; and increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders.
The Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation decided to fund The Neuro’s research because our goal is to improve the lives of those impacted by autism today, while transforming the lives of tomorrow.
One of the focal points of our Foundation is support for research into treatments and better outcomes for children.
The Neuro and the University of British Columbia will share research data. Through this important collaboration, the potential for significant breakthroughs will create the framework for advances with enormous possibilities for those living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families.

The support of the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation is pivotal, with an impact far beyond The Neuro. It is the beginning of a new partnership in open science. Thanks to this donation, we will be better equipped to harness important insights and increase the pace of drug discovery for the benefit of millions of people around the world living with ASD – as well as their families.
