The Beaty Bio-Diversity Museum is 10!

The Beaty Biodiversity Museum opened its doors in 2010 and UBC’s vast natural history collections were put on public display for the first time.

“For 10 years, every visitor to the Djavad Mowafaghian Atrium has been wowed when they see that blue whale,” says Santa Ono, President & Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia.

“This breathtaking entrance sets the stage for thousands of awe-struck school-children to begin their journey of discovery within the Beatty Museum.

“Thank you for your gift to ensure the Beaty Museum’s Discovery Lab reflects the colourful and energetic nature of the children who use it. The childrens’ awed faces and squeals of delight during the process of discovery speak for themselves.

“I am warmed by the thought of so many children being inspired to care for, study and celebrate the natural world thanks to your gift and Dr. Mowafaghian’s incredible vision to better the lives of children through education and health.”

Sunny Hill Health Centre Reopens

The Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation is proud to support this facility, which is elevating the care patients receive.

The children at Sunny Hill Health Centre face unique challenges as they recover from life-altering events like traumatic injuries or strokes or receive assessments or care for developmental conditions such as cerebral palsy. These children show strength and resilience beyond their years.

The Sunny Hill Health Centre, the only pediatric rehabilitation and developmental services facility of its kind in BC, re-opened its doors on the campus of BC Children’s Hospital in August 2020. It is a one-of-a-kind facility.

The Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation is proud to support this facility, which is elevating the care patients receive through enhancements like state-of-the-art technology, modern equipment and innovative spaces that expand therapy options and include outdoor areas for mobility training, relaxation and play.

The Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation donated $100,000 to the Lions Gate Hospital to support frontline workers who had to distance from their families for safety reasons and/or had long commutes to and from home between difficult shifts.

Dr. Mowafaghian will now be prominently visible in every direction of the BCCH site – south through the Djavad Mowafaghian Child Care Centre, north through the Djavad Mowafaghian Wing and EOS gift, east through the storyboard in honour of his gift to the new hospital, and now, in the west through the Welcome Gallery of Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children.

Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation Makes First Gift to the Blue & Gold Campaign for Students

Ensuring children are healthy and educated today will prepare them to be the leaders of tomorrow. This guiding principle was the impetus behind the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation’s recent gift to establish a Presidential Scholar Award at the University of British Columbia.
The Blue & Gold Scholarship Campaign for Students aims to raise $100 million over three years to give promising students access to a life-changing education.
UBC is honoured to carry out Dr. Mowafaghian’s vision to ensure that our youth have access to the education and resources that they need to make an impact on the world. Thank you for changing their world so they can change ours.
