Profile

Djavad MowafaghianIn 2011, Djavad Mowafaghian transferred all commercial real estate and other assets held by his development company to the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation. This move expanded the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation’s reach, and further guaranteed the foundation’s continuation long into the future.

The Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation has provided many benefits to a number of organizations since its inception, including the funding of a redevelopment project and new oncology wing at BC Children’s Hospital. Other benefactors of the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation include the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and more than twenty other charities within the lower mainland, and the Province of BC.

In 2010, Djavad Mowafaghian decided to help the University of British Columbia’s School of Medicine by contributing to the construction of the new Centre for Brain Health. He chose the Centre for Brain Health as it would play a role in studying and finding cures for brain disorders affecting children. The Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health officially opened on February 27th, 2014, with a celebratory gala being held there on February 28th. It is Djavad Mowafaghian’s belief that researchers should share knowledge, with the goal of benefitting mankind everywhere. It is expected that researchers at both the Centre for Brain Health at UBC and the Research Centre of Intelligent Neuro-Rehabilitation Technologies in Tehran will respect that belief, divulging their findings with the common goal of advancing neuroscience.

Today, Djavad Mowafaghian maintains his seat as Chairman of the Djavad Mowafaghian Foundation and, although he continues to oversee the Foundation’s operations, he has recently extended his interest in children’s wellbeing to his personal life. The two particular subjects of his interest are his young granddaughter and grandson.  Djavad Mowafaghian loves being a grandfather and hopes to instill in his grandchildren the same generosity, compassion, and need to contribute positively to society that his mother long ago instilled in him.

"The sons of Adam are limbs of each other, having been created of one essence.

When the calamity of time affects one limb, the other limbs cannot remain at rest.

If thou hast no sympathy for the troubles of others, thou art unworthy to be called by the name of human."
